Proofreading

Proofreading projects get notations and instructions to correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and word usage. I will mark any areas that need extra attention (i.e. significant structural changes or rewrites) and suggest follow-up as needed.

A project that has been proofread will include:

  • Corrected spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and word usage (can be limited for students if needed to include comments instead of corrections)
  • Notes about other potential inconsistencies and errors

Proofreading:
$3/Page*

Copy Editing: Light

Light copy editing goes beyond the proofreading mark-up and includes minor changes, giving proper weight to the original voice and intent of the author. I will also comment on areas that need extra attention (i.e. significant structural changes or rewrites).

A project that has been lightly copy edited will include:

  • Corrected spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and word usage
  • Consistent style and formatting
  • Clarity of intent/meaning
  • Notes about other potential inconsistencies and errors

Copy Editing: Basic
$4/Page*

Copy Editing: Heavy

Heavy copy editing (or substantive editing) incorporates the work of light copy editing but also includes significant changes to structure and content.

A project that has been heavily copy edited will include:

  • Corrected spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and word usage
  • Consistent style and formatting
  • Solutions to problems of overall clarity or accuracy
  • Reorganized, revised, and rewritten content to improve readability and flow

Copy Editing: Heavy
$6/Page*

All projects are unique, so the first step is to talk about your project and agree on terms (price, deadline, and expectations). I want you to walk away with a document, essay, short story, brochure, book, website, or telegram that makes you proud! Check out testimonials from previous clients or contact me if you have questions.

General Overview

How the Process works

Start by filling out a preliminary form to help both of us define what a successful project will look like—establishing the scope of your project (number of pages/words and any special requests for formatting or style) as well as the purpose or goal.

Using the project sample that you provide, I will determine what level of service will be required—which then allows me to send you a proposed price and deadline. Once we are in agreement about the specifics of the project, you will submit your content to me (see list of accepted file types and processes) along with full payment.** I will make any necessary annotations and/or changes (using your choice of the software options listed) and return the completed project to you.

Turn-around Time for Projects

These are estimated speeds:

  • Proofreading, 10 pages/hour*
  • Copy Editing: Basic, 8 pages/hour*
  • Copy Editing: Heavy, 5 pages/hour*
